    It is Perfect

The bike is perfect for this almost nine year old tall boy. It’s so smooth, super fast, and so much fun. We have a gas powered Coleman RB100 that can be good and unreliable at best, but this electric Razor is PERFECT. it always starts, runs for the full 40 minutes, and with the shocks it is the smoothest ride.

    My 5th Razor product.

Here’s the scoop. The bike has torque to spare. Parts are always available, and the kids have a blast. We’ve had the 250, great, 2 scooters, great, the taller street bike, awesome, and now the 650 for my 9 year old. It’ll haul you around really good if your an adult too under 200 pounds. (I’m not but it still tools me around. Don’t tell Razor.) It’s just a great buy when it’s on sale and the kids, of all ages, love it. You can also mod it which is pretty fantastic. Just a great bike! Solid buy.

    Very cool bike

My son loves his new bike. We bought it for him for his 10th Birthday. It wasn’t that hard to put together. We just had to put the front tire on and adjust a few things. The front tire was a pain to put on for us. I had to hold the bike up while my husband put the front tire on. I’m small so it was really heavy for me. The tires did come inflated. My husband struggled with the tire and had to pull the two front bars apart to put the tire on. After that everything was fine. It states for first charge to charge it 12 hours, well we did 24 hours as we always do for all my son’s electric toys. Then after we do 12 hours for full charge. It says 40 mins. Of riding time for a full charge. I know my son rode way longer than 40 mins. And it still has a good charge. It has an indicator where you give it gas to let you know when it’s getting low and when it’s fully charged. There’s brakes on both side of the handle bars. There’s also little black pegs that fold in and out to put your feet on when riding. I’m only 100 lbs. myself and I rode it a few times and this little bike really gets up and goes. My son loves it and is happy so I’m happy too. No complaints with this bike.

    46 years old and cruising

$499 seems like a steal on sale right now. Got my 9 year old son the MX350 and my 46 year old self this to share with my 12 year old who isn’t really into dirt bikes, but I used him as an excuse to buy it for myself. I weigh 215 lbs and this things cruises me around with no problems, other than looking silly. It’s a blast. I see why they don’t recommend for under 16 though. When I got my 12 year old to try it he lost control and laid it down in the street and now wants to ride it even less. Awesome, but be careful getting the kids acclimated as it is not a toy.

    Good little bike.

I originally bought the MX400, but when I unboxed it I realized it was way too small for my 8 year old daughter. She is approximately 4ft6in and 60lbs. I returned it and ordered the MX650. I am glad I did. The MX650 is perfect for her height. It has working suspension, the throttle is variable and it has front and rear disc brakes. It is easy to assemble. Its light enough that she can pick it up when she crashes or falls over. It has decent acceleration and is plenty fast enough for her. Even though the MX650 is a couple hundred more than the MX400 it was worth it as she will be able to ride it for a couple years before she grows out of it, or until she wants to move up to a gas powered bike. The electric motorcycle is better for around the neighborhood as it is quiet and doesn’t tear things up like a gas bike would. If your child is 7 or up I would recommend the 650 over the 400 or 350 model it is just a better bike. The build quality seams to be pretty good. The only issue I had is the bolt holding the kickstand on was stripped out so I had to rummage up a nut and bolt to hold it on.

Worked for 15 minutes then stopped running…

Pros-Easy assemblyNice lookingGood throttle responseCon-I charged it the recommended time before the first use. Gave it to my son for his 8th birthday and after 15 minutes of use it just won’t move. Battery indicators say it full. Yes, I can take it apart and look at it over but just the same it didn’t last 15 minutes.I will update after checking the connections.Update: I troubleshooted the problem using YouTube. I had to take the seat and plastic off to get to the wire harnesses. Checked all connections and the fuse. It was a loose connection. Started right up after. But while I was in there I electrical taped all the connections to keep them secure and so that they are water tight. I also used seal tape to seal the “motor” cover to the frame to keep water from getting in this fall. Total fix time 2 hours . My son loves it and the battery time is close to an hour at full tilt. I’ll upgrade my review to four stars.

    Very fun

Great bike. My son is 8 and about 55lbs. He rides this no problem on our driveway, through our woods, etc. I am 120lbs and ride it no problem too. We even rode it together a few times. The battery never even got low after a lot of riding. Maybe it drains faster for heavier riders. My only complaint is when putting it together to put the front wheel on because the bike is rather heavy, it takes two people. My son and I still managed to do it alone though. I lifted it up and he slid a box under it to hold it up while I put the wheel on. I didn’t have the strength to hold it up long enough to explain how to put the wheel on to my son. He’s very smart but when lifting something like that while trying to explain about lining the wheel up in the calipers and putting the bolt through everything with washers, spacers, and everything in the correct order, it’s REALLY difficult for a single mom and an 8 yr old. But we still did it, just had to be creative.

    AWESOME FUN

Bought 2 of these for my kids. Had them for 2 weeks now. They are great. To show you the great battery life…I’ll give you my experience when I(190lbs) ride the bike with my 6yo 40lb daughter on same seat (..so worst case scenario at 230lbs) :). Rode them as much as 7 miles on somewhat hilly roads without running out of battery. After battery turns yellow..to low..i have been able to go at least 10 more minutes or about a 2 miles or so. The battery seems to last for a very long time. They say 40 minutes continuously…which (no one really does) translates into an hour and a half of fun with stops etc. I also have 2 boys are 6 and 8 years old. They both ride the bike without any problems. Took the 6 year old a couple of tries but he is now perfectly comfortable with it. I was worried because the bike is heavy at over 90 lbs, but they are stable while riding and the kids never have to deal with the weight. My 6 year old daughter is afraid to ride it so we ride together…so far bike had held up.Negative: Front suspension and front disk brakes are noisy. They are noisy no matter the weight(230lbs or 50lbs) on the bike.Overall, kids love them around the house. Adults can use them if you want to go on mini trips…one for the adult one for a child. You will look goofy but will have as big a smile as your kid while riding.. Soon I’ll have to buy another for my daughter. :)SPEED: Clocked it at about 18 mi/h on flat street, with 190lbs on the bike. My kids pass me easily probably getting around 20mph

You will have way too much fun

Omg! I feel like a kid again. I bought 2 of these bad boys and loved them so much I bought 2 more. I am 54 years old and they are perfect for me and my friends. I am 5’9 and the bikes are very comfortable. My son is 6’5 and 240 pounds (college football player) and although he looks hilarious on the bike it is perfect for him. The batteries seem to last long. The manufacturer says they last one hour before recharging. There is a light that turns yellow to let you know you better head back. We have gone hour and half a couple times without the light turning yellow. The bikes are very simple to operate and are pretty quiet being electric which i love! No gas or oil to deal with.We ride to a local park and when there are all four of us on the bikes everyone starts laughing and wants to know where we bought them or take a ride. Most kids are jealous and ask their parents if they can get one. I also love how easy it is to go from the grass to the pavement. You can go anywhere on them. The top speed is only 17 miles per hour which is plenty fast for our road trip tours. If you are looking to compete with them or go super fast and do jumps and stuff you will be disappointed, they are not that type of bike. If you want to relax and see the sights around you this is for you!

    Good purchase

If you’re looking for a sturdy bike for rides around the neighborhood, dirt or concrete, you found your bike. Battery life is much longer than 30 minutes. More like 2 hours even with max weight. If you are trying to decide between the 500 and the 650, don’t waste anymore time and just purchase the 650. The 500 has much less capability for speed and load capacity. True they are both exactly the same size and weight, but not the same output. We have the 400, 500 and 650. Both 500 and 650 have shocks to save your butt from going numb along your journey. The 400 and below have no shocks, so what a bumpy ride it is. If your child is 9 or older he/she will be quite disappointed with anything less than the 500. These bikes can be modified to go faster and even longer battery life. They are fun and durable and definitely worth every penny spent.

    Great little dirt bike

Wait for a sale @ 50% off. I kept monitoring it for weeks. I can’t say it is worth the regular retail price, but on sale it is a good value for the money. Purched the 350mx prior 3 years ago and it is still going. This is for my 9 year old grandson and he loves it. When he out grows it, we plan to upgrade it with one of the many aftermarket kits. The foot pegs suck and are too narrow, replace them with some wider ones. Setup was pretty easy and make sure to charge it overnight before using it. Suspension is pretty stiff, we softened the rear shock as much as possible. Front forks are not adjustable.

    SO MUCH FUN

Even in stock form this thing is a blast. This new hobby started when I pulled an mx500 and mx350 out of my basement and revived them,(no idea how they got there but at some point they did). Everyone coming over the house was having a blast so I bought this one for myself. Not only did I buy one but my coworker bought one. Now we ride them to work because we each live so close, we take them on rides around town. We have hangouts at my house where we ride them in circles in my backyard destroying my grass. I weigh 215 pounds and it moves me along no problems. There’s tons of aftermarket support aswell for when the modification bug strikes.

Expect to have to do a little work if you by a warehouse return.

Well these are pricy but you can’t beat the quality of razor. This is my second purchase. My son is 7 and has the mx350. It is perfect for him. Just fast enough that he loves it but can’t kill himself on it. I purchased the mx650 so I could ride with him. Because it was 3 times the price of the 350 I decided to go with an amazon return which saved me a few hundred. It came complete and quickly but I soon found out it was missing a small but important part for the front axel. 5 minutes on the phone with razor support and they had the part in the mail. Next I found it wouldn’t charge. After taking it apart the batteries looked like they either froze or overheated. And this thing was quite dirty under the hood. Nevertheless one more call to razor support and new battery pack is in the mail. I’ll be updating my review in a few weeks after I get this thing running but very hopeful.Update – received the parts from razor in just about a week. Fast service. Everything works now and my kids love it. The only annoying thing is the front shoes are noisy. I plan to mod them anyways.

A great electric bike for the price

We have two of these: one purchased used and one new. There are a ton of reviews, here are my the main points:Change the motor sprocket: This is a great upgrade! You lose a few mph top speed (hardly noticeable around the yard) but the improved acceleration and throttle response at lower speeds make me highly recommend it. The factory is 11 tooth, the replacement is 9 tooth- changing the gear ratio from 7.27:1 to 8:1. I’m not sure if it’s sold on Amazon, but search for electric scooter part SPR-2509CStock batteries aren’t very good: Use the factory batteries until they die and then replace them with something higher quality. I replaced the batteries on our used one with three quality SLA batteries (Interstate DCM0012 12Ah) These last longer and seem to deliver higher current than the budget batteries the bikes ship with. The factory harness is soldered to the battery terminals. Dorman sells 10 – 12 ga right angle connectors (Dorman 84172) that work great for the SLA terminals and are available on Amazon or at most auto parts stores. The front fork isn’t the best but it’s lasted three years on the old one. The rear shock was clunking on the brand new bike when it arrived. We unscrewed the lower spring perch a few turns so that the spring tension lowered. This kept the shock plunger from rebounding and hitting the upper stop.If you have decent electrical skills (being able to identify the positive and negative wires of the battery harness, splice, and solder) then you should upgrade to a pulse charger (like the Granite Digital Battery Saver) or microprocessor controlled battery charger (like Powerstream) The factory charging port runs through the motor controller and wouldn’t work for me unless I used the constant amp charger it came with.

Easy to assemble out of the box.

Really easy to put together and has nice pick up for a 60 lb. 9 y/o. Dies quite a bit on hills, but fun on flat terrain. Was able to carry 2 people weighing roughly 220 on a straight flat road.

Shocked by quality and rugged construction!Shocked by look, looks like the real deal.Shocked by power (heavy duty electric motor)Shocked at ease of assembly, install front wheel, handle bar, front fender and front number plackered (all tools needed were included)Shocked by assembly time 95% assembled ( it took 20 minutes to complete)I have over a dozen razor products and never disappointed in performance, this motorcycle is the best of the lot. I ordered a 2nd one after I saw the finished product. I have 2 Quad 500’s and been impressed by them. The kids play on them every day. I had 2 smaller motorcycles and the kids out grew them. This 650 is shockingly large and impressive.

    Well packaged, well made

Battery life for my sons use is about 45min before it starts to show a decrease in speed. It can go longer, it’s just not fun to go that slow. Which was low amount of time given how slow it charges. However, Bike is well built and packaged very well. It’s a heavy lil bike to lift (but not heavy in the sense of if it fell on the side you would get stuck or anything) Was a good height for 12yr old he rides every day, but even I was able to ride it around the yard without issue. Though I would not advise it for adults long term—It can hold the weight though just fine if you’re not very tall (would be fine to have fun on) Did fine in all the terrain we have here (asphalt, clamshell, grass, dry dirt, fields) Have not taken it into any mud given that it’s electric. I would definitely recommend this to kids to teens getting into the sport or for fun without needing gasoline or clutch. You could get a small gas bike for a similar price but if you want to go the electric route this is a nice bike.

Power Swiches went out 4 months in

Purchased 2 of these bikes. They both worked good until on BOTH bikes the power switches went bad causing the motor to just click and not move. This happened with both within the 4th month of use. Replaced switches and they work fine.

Great for beginners, not for advanced

I’m writing this review as a adult and someone who comes from riding full size gas dirt bikes. I weigh 160 lbs. The bike was easy to assemble besides one of the bar clamp holes that’s tapped in the triple clamp was tapped crooked making it very difficult to install one side. I had to drill the clamp clearance hole slightly larger. Putting on the front tire was pretty straight forward. It comes with all the tools you need. The pros and consCons:Not full grip twist throttle causes you to turn the regular grip until it falls offFront forks are heavy, clunky, and poor quality. No rebound bumper. Hard metal thud when they extend back out after decent compression.Battery life 20-30min or less depending on riding surface.Charge time says 12 hours but green light on charger comes on sooner so who knows.Power delivery. This motor has torque but the controller is what’s known as a soft start style meaning it slowly ramps up to full speed even tho you are at full throttle. This makes this bike useless in soft sand and any berm corner you need to accelerate out of.Too slow for anyone above beginner. Needs larger watt motor with higher voltage and rpm.The Pros:Sturdy frame. This bike can support a lot of weight and the frame is built well.Great brakes. The front and rear brakes are amazing. Tons of powerQuite. Since it’s electric it’s very quiet compared to a gasser. There are a lot of after market parts and upgrades. You can easily spend more than the bike is worth on battery, controller, motor, and suspension upgrades. For a child beginner this bike would be pretty good. For anyone else you will be disappointed. Heavy, clunky, slow, weak, and very little ride time. If you plan on upgrading like me just start with the cheaper 500 bike. It’s the same thing with a smaller motor. Your going to swap that anyways. Or find a used one with dead batteries etc, your going to swap those too. From what I have gathered the 1800watt 48 Volt kit with Hard Start, some lithium batteries, and mountain bike forks and rear shock make for an awesome all around bike.Just search YouTube. Good luck.

Product quality control issue from razor

I’ll start by saying Amazon customer service was great and resolved issues . Initally tried working with razor since a weld crack , poor scuffed areas and battery issues were all on razor and they were very very unhelpful. I asked if I could get a ticket to a local razor warranty shop within my zip code they kept saying contact Amazon tho the box said contact us not retailer . Very unhelpful . Luckily Amazon stands behind there customers

    Great but not for long.

For the money this is hands-down the best option for kids. Although they specify it’s for 13 year olds in reality anyone bigger than 10 years of age or taller than 5 feet is too big for this. We have a five-year-old and a seven year old that ride this all the time.It works great for the money however, we have had six of these and almost all of them die within 6 to 10 monthsIt’s still a lot cheaper than buying gas, powered one, and eliminate the smell of gas or getting burned by the carburetor

    My boys love it!!

I’ve owned quite a few electric mini dirtbikes… including the mx500. If you are looking for a great starter dirt bike this is your go to. I love the safety feature on the throttle. You can give it gas but also hold on at the same time. My boys and I all love it. Easy to assemble, long battery life, awsome shock, it runs nicely on rugged terrain and on road alike. After a full charge we got three hours of full blast use on some very hilly off road courses. I cant say enough good things about it. And if you are stuck between which to get out of the razormx500 and this one…. buy this one… its superior in every way. It also is alot bigger then it looks. My 12 year old is 5ft 4 and 140 pounds. 17 year old is 5ft10 and 150 and they both love this bike and can ride it nicely.I’ve only had it a couple days so will give a future update with longevity and how it does long term.

Best electric dirt bike on the market!!

Amazing electric dirt bike!!! We considers every electric dirt bike out there, including the smaller and slower Razor models, but settled on this one based on reviews and that it went on sale amazingly cheap!!My son is only 7, but on the bigger size for his age, so it was hard to decide which model would fit him well. His friend had the small mx 350 and it was obviously too small, but this bike said its meant for kids age 16 and up (!!!).After seeing it in a store, it was obvious how small this would be for a 16 year old. It’s great for my son and I can see him fitting on it for quite a while. But, it’s big enough and strong enough that his father can still ride it every now and then too, so it’s not impossible for an older rider. It does have power though and is noticeably faster than the mx350, but he quickly learned how to handle it and never had any issues controlling the dirt bike.Overall, it’s an amazing dirt bike for an amazing price – especially if your rider would need you to buy a gas station of your own if they had a real gas dirt bike!!The recommendations for height and weight are safety measures on the company’s part, but you know your kid better than they do and can be able to judge if they could handle the power and size.I would post a picture but he is never still long enough to be any more than a blur! Lol

    Kickin dirt and blazin trails

My 8y/o son got this for his birthday and loves it. He was riding an electric scooter and was going to hurt himself.I showed him a video of kids riding this razor and he loved it and his friend has a 500. I assembled it and had it charged for his party and he took off and his Nana nearly had to change her pants. It’s great if moms don’t want kids to have a gas powered motorcycle. Now for the review. Assembly was pretty easy for a mechanic. Shouldn’t be too hard for anyone. I did change the shock mounting hole, it has two, to raise the rear end up some and tightened the shock up a bit. Be careful installing the front wheel or you could bend the disk brake rotor. Brakes work well just a little flimsy on the rotors part.Decals are cheap and placement needs improvement but kids won’t notice that. The cap over the charging port is a nice touch.Charging a 36 volt system takes a good while but if it is charged overnite it should last all day if not ridden too hard.Speed is good 12 – 15 mph depending on terrain and going by my Honda 100 speedometer.Fit and finish on metal parts is good and it cleans up easy. Don’t hose it off too hard because it is electric. If anyone needs to replace batteries, which should be a few years, be careful because the wires are soldered to the terminals. You will need a good soldering iron to break them loose before you melt the battery.I think Razor has a good product line and I am very satisfied with the MX 650!

    Awesome bike, buy it!

The Razor dirt bikes are a huge blast and all kids love them. This has enough power that a can go through grass and dirt better than the MX350. There are so many options to customize and upgrade these bikes, just buy it! They are silent and don’t bother neighbors which is a big plus. Assembly was very straightforward, easier than some ikea I’ve had.

    Razor is the best

Razor never disappoints me this is my 3rd razor bike. I have to boys 8 and 16 have been using these for years. We have had the 350 and 400. This one the 600 goes so fast I would say 20 mph. We have rode this for an hour and a half with the battery feeling like it still had full charge. The shocks are great they really bounce when you hit a bump. Goes up hills fast even muddy hills. Looks like a real dirt bike my neighbor asked me if it was a 50cc(gas powered dirt bike). The only downside (if you consider it one) is it is way to powerful for a child . I ride this with my 8 year old son (50 lbs) we both fit on the seat .I’m 5ft no more than 120lbs. I love it so much santa is going to bring him the new epunk bike which I’m sure he will be able to handle by himself. Can’t go wrong worth every penny ! Love razor! If your not mechanically inclined this is for you.Helped me being a single mom break into “something that has been a man’s world” with my boys . Oh do not let the battery freeze or the batteries will be ruined.

    Wheels are a weak point

Front wheel bent the first ride (razor sent me a new one for free)Front suspension is pretty bad for off roadI think the rsf is slightly better build quality and frame (and wheels for sure)I also don’t like the handlebars I put the rsf handlebars on the mx and it’s way more comfortable for meIf you want an off-road e bike I’d recommend the new crfI still have fun on it but I don’t take it off road which kind of defeats the purpose

Really a big toy – great for most kids

I was a little apprehensive about the MX650, wondering if it would be too much for an 8 year old to handle. It’s not – in fact it’s about perfect for him. I’m glad I didn’t get the MX500 – I think that would have been underpowered. After watching him (and his friends) ride the bike for several days, I am no longer worried about safety. They can all handle the bike without problems. It provides enough speed, power, and run time to be fun and challenging, without presenting an unacceptable risk. We’ve had kids of all ages and sizes try it out. Kids between about 75-110 pounds and 54-65 inches tall seem to do just fine on the bike – it’s a nearly ideal solution for them. But it is perhaps a bit small and underpowered for kids over 110 pounds and over 65 inches or so – it carries them just fine, but they get frustrated when it won’t go very fast with them.I’m very impressed with the MX650’s quality. It is built to last, with a strong steel frame and rugged components. I’m sure it can take a beating for years and still go strong. Razor definitely put quality and durability first – it is refreshing to get a product that is well thought, well constructed, and built for frequent and long term use. Charging is a bit time consuming, but that’s the nature of current battery systems. If you’re looking for a powered two-wheeler that is something more than a simple toy, but something less than a full-blown motorbike, and the intended user is in the large 8 year-old to a small 12 year-old range, I definitely recommend the MX650.

they used to have the smaller ones and loved them and they wanted bigger ones now

We bought two of these dirt bike, one for both of our boys for Christmas. they used to have the smaller ones and loved them and they wanted bigger ones now. They actually wanted real ones, that are gas powered, but with the gas ones they are loud and the neighborhood would not like that too much. So these are great and they are quiet so everyone is happy especially the boys. They go pretty fast I think, I dont know how fast, I am sure the manufactuer tells you, but it is fast enough the boys love it. Oh by the way my boys are 8 and 9 years old. They can even ride someone on the back with them like their friends and they do all the time, my older son who is 20 also has rode this and it still does good, not as fast, but the point is that this is quality built. So my boys ride and ride and ride, they also jump them on small jumps, we have had some things break but its from the way they ride, the chain tensioner we had to replace adn I will tell you that Amazon has the best price for those. We do recommend these and we love them. They are bit a pricey but for what we wanted the quiet dirtbikes for our boys, we are happy and so are they.

    Disapointed

Thought we were getting a heck of a deal on this highly rated MX650 for only $499.99 before tax.My 55lb kid has a MX350 which zips him around at a pretty good speed and his battery lasts as long as he does. Got the MX650 to ride with him. The 650 adds suspension, more power, dual brakes and proportional throttle (sort of).We had an enjoyable ride together and I’m sure the 650 will make a nice upgrade for him someday but this is not the bike to carry a 190lb adult (unless maybe you live somewhere completely flat).Issues:By the time the battery indicator indicates a low charge the battery is too dead to get you home, or much of anywhere. One reviewer said it charges fast. It takes 12 or 14 hours. I wouldn’t call that fast. The front fork is very klunky and noisy, like it is banging on a hard stop rather than any sort of cushion. None of my motorcycles or off road bicycles have ever had this issue. The suspension in general is just bad. I suppose it is better than nothing but again, compaired to any other motorcycle or off road bicycle, it is just jarring. Like riding a road bicycle off road.Battery life was just one short ride in our neighborhood, maybe 15 minutes. My kids MX350 still had plenty of juice but the 650 was done. I suppose a much smaller person on flat ground could go the 10 miles/ 40 min they claim, maybe. The thing I really don’t like is the “proportional” throttle. It doesn’t work like I would have expected and this resulted in barely being able to climb hills. Electric motors are known for having great torque but MX650 has next to none off the line. The power comes in stages, almost like shifting gears. The faster you go the more power it allows you to have, in steps. On flat ground this shifting is noticable but not really all that annoying. Trying to go uphill was a mixed bag. If I had enough speed at the bottom of the hill the 650 would climb okay but if the speed ever dropped below a certain threshold it cut the power, regardless of the position of the throttle on the grip. I don’t know exactly how it works but it is like you are limited to say 200 watts until you hit perhaps 4 MPH and then you get say 350 watts until you hit 9 MPH and then you get 500 watts until you hit 13 MPH and then the full 650 finally kicks in. IDK maybe there is only 3 steps and maybe my numbers are way off but this is what it feels like. If you are stuck going up a hill with only 200 watts you are just going to creep up and barely be able to keep your balance and if you never hit that 4 MPH “shift point” you never get any more power. Also there is no powering out of corners. I understand a certain level of soft start is good for safety but the way this works on the MX650 is just silly.I’ve heard that some of the modified motors work just the opposite, with MAX torque available all the time and the throttle only being a top speed governor. This does not sound ideal to me either. I want the throttle to control the power or torque the motor makes and if I crank the thing wide open I want max power available. If this was just for me I’d return it but the kid will outgrow his 350 and this will be waiting for him come his next birthday. Hopefully most of the issues are because of my weight and hopefully this will be a nice upgrade from his 350.

Mixed feelings. More like a scooter that looks like a motorcycle

1 year update.A year later, with minimal use, the batteries gave out. I also see that in the same time period, the price of these has gone up significant. Had I paid current prices, it would likely be 2 stars. My son rode it for a bit, but soon realized it is slower than his other electric scooters. At the current price, I just do not see these as a good value. Kids will grow bored quickly or the cheap batteries will die. That said ..Purchasing parts, mostly from Amazon, this does serve as a nice platform for something much more fun. Since I needed to replace batteries, it was upgrade time. I replaced the 3 batteries (36v total) with a 20 AH lithium ion pack that weighs a lot less. Replaced the 500w, 36v motor with a 2000 Watt 48v unit, also replaced the controller and throttle. Finally, updated rear shock with a slightly longer BMX unit to raise the rear about 1.5 inches. After all that, both speed and rage have nearly doubled and it is now as it should probably come from the factory. Lots of videos out there if you are so inclined. Then again, for what you will have into it, a used PW50 or PW80 might be a better choice.Original review ….Picked this up as a Birthday present for my son.It definitely looks the part and my son was very excited to receive it. It seems pretty sturdily built and should stand up well to a 10 year old.Assembly was pretty easy, took no more than 30 minutes. It does come with some tools for Assembly, but I would recommend you use a real set of wrenches, etc. The provided tools are somewhat cheesy and it will be difficult to really tighten everything down properly using them. So, why only 3 stars? Mostly because it does not really have a lot of power and is kind of slow. It is slower than our Razor ecosmart metro which my son was already riding..Those photos of kids doing wheelies and or jumping ramps … that just is not going to happen. It is more like riding a scooter that looks cool.. I was not expecting the Yamaha 80 I had as a kid,, but I do think most kids will get bored and grow out of it quickly. There are many aftermarket mods to increase power and speed.. still,, those are costly and at some point a gas powered mini-bike makes more sense..Battery life seems good and it charges quickly. Too soon to say how long those batteries will last. Albeit my experience with other Razor products in that regard has not been great. If / when the batteries go, better to replace with lighter, longer lasting lithium units. It was tough deciding how to rate this. If it were $250 it would be 5 stars. Given the price I expected more from it.

Bad Battery, Lots of bad screws

I am disappointed in this prodect. I had a blast the first 3-5 weeks on this thing but then the brakes stopped working, and I didn’t realise on till a year later that the brake lines were loose. Another reason why I dislike this prodect is because I must have spent at least $60 dollars on replacement parts (Mainly screws). One example of this was when I was riding through some trails then the screw holding in the rear suspentsion just fell out leaving my bike to be squated and leaving me to be stranded in the woods.

    Disappointed

Arrived on schedule. Reasonably easy to assemble. Grandson was very anxious to ride. After 12 hours charging he was on it. The lack of power was obvious if it could run 17 MPH it must be on the desert flats. He weighs about 70 lbs so that should not be a problem. Bike moves like a kids toy. Very disappointed!

    Kind of BADASS!!!…. **Updated **

disclaimer- I only received the bike this morning- literally- so I have assembled it and fully charged it for the complete 12 hours only. I went to test drive it after work (still plenty of sun out) and it creaks like crazy. Brakes? Wheels? Plastic particles? Who knows!! Additionally, I would like to add, that although I’m only 5’1”, i can easily lift or carry 50-60lbs, am extremely athletic for 105lbs and I had a HELLOVA time trying to lift this beast and assemble it on my own. I did it… but believe me when I say it does NOT take a half an hour if you are alone. It took me nearly an hour- most of the time spent just trying to move it around to assemble the handle bars and the wheel. It was easy enough in theory but in reality- unless you’re super talented (no- I am not a moron) then I’d carve out a little bit more time than the assembly directions require… I’ll update if the performance exceeds my expectations or not…**UPDATE!!**Believe it or not- this little machine is a BEAST!!! And believe me when I say that takes a lot coming from an ADULT. Yes. That’s right. I’m a very small frame, athletic AF adult female at 5”2’ and 105lbs.ZERO SHAME in saying that although I drive an SUV, I haven’t forgotten my days spent dirt biking and skateboarding with my older brothers and have luckily stayed in pretty decent shape throughout the years (cue ^modesty^ haha!) in any event.. I knobs I’d expect a lot. And trust me when I say I took this little baby to a dirt canyon LOADED with jumps, turns, rocks and shale galore and it did exceedingly well for over an hour. I didn’t gauge the speed- but I was in the air at least 1/5 of the time and put this baddie through hell chasing after my nephews who are demons. Long story long- if it’s under $700 JUST BUY IT AND SMILE. You’re very welcome🙌🏻

Great concept, Poor execution, works great after freewheel modification

Bike appears to be solid with the exception of the rear wheel sprocket assembly. It seems to be a common problem with this bike. After one week the rear wheel fell apart. Motor spins and the rear sprocket turns but the wheel does not move. Called customer service and Razor is shipping a new wheel. I’m pretty sure this will happen again as it’s a very poor design. From what I can see there is no good alternative replacement parts. After the 3 month warranty period is over you are stuck buying a new wheel. Bike is used by a 6 year old around the house. Stay away from this garbage. If Razor would fix the rear wheel design this would be a great toy and I would give it 5 stars. In my opinion it’s unacceptable for a toy like this to fall apart after one week of light use.7/19/11 UPDATE: As predicted the rear freewheels broke again (one week after being replaced). Called Razor again and they are shipping a new wheel. After investigating the issue closer I decided to take the broken wheel to a local shop and weld the freewheel solid. This will eliminate the freewheel problem. It’s not a perfect solution but it should get the job done and keep my son happy. I will post an update once it’s tested.10/29/11 UPDATE:Found a reasonable fix to my rear freewheel problem. I welded the rear sprocket solid and it works great but I wanted to investigate other options. Since I had few spare rear wheels (Razor warranty replacements) I purchased a brand new freewheel from ElectricScooterParts for $12 (I chose the cheaper one that looks like a bicycle rear sprocket. It replaces the original freewheel and the original bigger sprocket bolts right on top of it. The new sprocket work great, much stronger and more reliable. My son used the same unit the entire summer without any issues. Once every two weeks I lubricate it with lithium grease spray. Since I found the fix to the freewheel problem I purchased another mx650 for my 9 year old son from eBay for $180, brand new with missing chain(Amazons prices wend from $360 to over $500 at one point). Now we have two bikes which run without any issues since I eliminated the freewheel issue.5/14/12 Update:Both bikes are still going strong. Looks like the front fork is falling apart on one of the bikes (Plastic internal parts started to come out). It’s still usable but I started looking for a replacement. Other than that, things are still working OK. My rear sprocket mod is working great. On one bike I welded the sprocket solid and the other is still using the replacement freewheel I mentioned in the original post.

    Good Value, nice bike

After my son outgrew the smaller Razor 350 we upgraded to the 650. If it is as well built and bulletproof as the 350, this is well worth it. It is a nice electric trainer dirt bike. The acceleration is good, top speed is faster, and the suspension is nice. He is 9 and this is a perfect size for him. It will last him at least 2-3 years before he is ready for another upgrade. This can handle light off-road and smaller hills. Great trainer bike before a “real” one. Would recommend.

TWO YEARS later, still VERY pleased.

Came quickly as Amazon orders always do. Packaging was perfect, no evidence of drops or crushing. Assembly was fairly easy, instructions were clear, took me about 20 minutes. The hardest part was lifting the box off the bike. Tires were pre-inflated. No tube or flat problems like I heard about in other versions of this bike. As a matter of fact, my son’s mother purchased an MX350 for our 8 year’s birthday at her home, and she had to drive an hour to get the tire fixed to save the day. After charging our MX650 for 18 hours, I took it for a ride around the neighborhood to make sure everything was working properly. I weigh about 175 and was surprised how peppy this thing is. My son has been riding this pretty regularly at our home for clips of 30-40 minutes, and I have only charged it 5 times since December. The battery has only so many charging cycles, so I’ll let it get low before recharging it. He must have gotten 90 minutes out of the last charge. Highly recommend this bike. I felt an 8 year old didn’t need the speed and danger of a real gas dirtbike. This thing has been fast and fun enough to keep his ADHD attention.Update November 2010: We have two of these, and both have been well used and still hold a 30-40 minute charge. Zero problems with the motors or tires too. Our boy took a few spills on his, got some gnarly scrapes, but that’s to be expected. The kids don’t run to use them as much as they did last December, because like any toy, this too gets old.Update September 2011: Both are still running! The kids are a little older now (12 and almost 10). The 12 year-old has become too tall (and mature 🙂 to ride hers, so it’s been passed down to the 10 year-old boy’s buddies when they come over. They’re not used as much as they used to be, so I feared the batteries would be shot. Not only do the batteries still hold a pretty decent charge, but I have NEVER, not once, filled the tires with air, and they’re still in great shape! I may, for the first time, fill the tires to give them a little boost in speed. We moved to a more urbanish suburb with less dirt, so they’re ridden on paved streets now when they’re ridden. We’ve moved twice since we first got them. They’ve had a few minor spills, but no serious injuries to the bikes or kids (thank goodness). Bottom line, they’ve held up very well, still running excellent for a two year-old battery powered riding toy.Update October 2012: The kids are now almost 11 and 13, and they’re both pretty much done with these things. Both the bikes still run! Original tires and batteries. Granted, the battery on one of them lasts about 20 minutes and the other a little longer, but the kids are bigger and heavier than they were two years ago, so that’s to be expected. We sold them to someone for about $150 each for his kids, and they’re very pleased. Overall, still 5 stars over our complete ownership. That’s pretty darn good. Still recommend!

So good I plan on buying another

The media could not be loaded.

This video shows our daughter, 7 years old at the time, riding her MX650 for the first time last year. She has since gotten significantly better. It also shows the vast difference between this and a power wheels.I have ridden dirt bikes and street bikes for 20 years. From 80 cc dirt bikes, to 1,000 cc super-sports, to my current toy, a Honda CRF250L. I’ve ridden forest trails and even dragged knees at race tracks. I’ve rebuilt motorcycles from the frame up and performed countless services. I have experience with bikes. With that said, I could not be happier with this little Razor dirt bike. Most of the people complaining seem to expect this little bike to compete with the big boys in terms of quality and power. Take a look at your local Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki dealership and you’ll find even the smallest 50 and 80cc dirt bikes are $2,000 or more, I looked again before buying this. This little Razor is 1/4 the price. Not much more than your cheap plastic power wheels. However, unlike your power wheels and other cheap plastic ride-on’s in this price range which have plastic tires, no suspension, etc., this bike has it all, working suspension, rubber tires, long life, etc. Not to mention, no maintenance, no carburetor to mess with, no oil to change, the brakes are those off a bicycle. Everything is simple. Also, unlike buying a used dirt bike in this price range, this is new. You don’t have to deal with the usually poor treatment of the previous owner. We bought this bike for our 7 year old daughter. The warnings and advertising for a teenager is a joke. The warnings actually say no younger than 16. I love how a 15 year old can drive on the highway in a car at 60mph, but by the warnings isn’t old enough to ride this toy 15mph on grass. Even now at 8 years old our daughter has quickly has mastered the bike and could move up to something bigger. However, with that said, I do really enjoy riding this little bike myself. As does my wife. Its quite fun to just zip around the yard. Recently I have started riding it through the woods on trails where I ride my real dirt bike. I was very surprised about how well it performed. I was definitely pushing it well beyond its intended design, but it held up fine, even with my adult weight. My one and only gripe with the bike is the gearing. Its geared for riding across flat grass. It loses all power going up a hill. At least with my adult weight. It handles our daughters weight just fine. I plan to remedy this however with a larger custom rear sprocket. With that, this could easily be a toy for me as well as a good dirt bike for some legitimate trail riding. As for the power life. Again, not sure whats wrong with other reviews. We can ride this bike for hours with my daughters weight. For well over an hour with my adult weight. With a bigger sprocket to tax the motor less, I think it will be even better. As for ruggedness. This thing has already survived numerous falls and crashes. Also, like I said earlier, I’ve taken it on trails I take my real dirt bikes, with my adult weight, it has held up fine.Overall, this is one of the best purchases I’ve made. With all the cheap products out their these days, this has been a great experience.

Your kids will ride it non-stop

Bought this about 2 years ago for my then 10 yr old son and he still rides it all the time at age 13, though he is big on it. It handles the weight well.It was pretty easy to put together. Took me about 45 min, and I would not call myself handy. Good instructions. The bike is pretty heavy duty and overall good quality. Very quiet. Speed is acceptable for an 8-10 yo, but not pokey either. The plastic wheel fenders stood up to severe beating- jumping, wheelies, numerous crashes and wipeouts before one broke. It did not affect the bike performance 😄. Battery life lasts about 4 hours of constant use. Usually charge it each night. Great bike to learn how to ride “dirt bike” style and master basic skills without a clutch or gas motor.

Not assembled right at factory caused mass chaos on Christmas. Too expensive for too many probs

We ordered the Razor MX650 for our son for Christmas. We followed the instructions thoroughly but much to our disappointment, as we were bringing both sons Razors in on Christmas Eve night… the 650 would NOT work. It was dead as a door nail; although it had charged for 15 hours and the light was green on the charger. We were stressed and trying to figure out why it wasn’t working and worried that our sons Christmas morning would be ruined because it wasn’t working. We ended up watching videos on YouTube trying to troubleshoot.. which ended up with us having to take this entire bike apart to see what’s going on with the battery or whatever…. and that was no easy task. After figuring out how much we had to take off to get to the battery (because none of that had to be done when putting it together initially) – we were well over an hour and a half in to trying to figure it out… when we get it apart, we noticed that there was two connections not connected at all – the one from the power switch to the battery.. then notice that there were several screws missing as well.. the battery wasn’t fastened down with a screw… there was another control panel or module that also wasn’t secure with a screw that was obviously needed. Paying $700 for something to come in like this is completely ridiculous. Your company completely failed to put it together correctly, costing us a lot of time and stress… Too high of a price to pay for such difficult issues. Not to mention the construction of the bike – every little screw that we had to remove was literally a different size, hex or Phillips head, hard as hell to get into spots to remove them all, etc. And we shouldn’t have even had to do this anyways. Again, paying the price we paid, this is just ridiculous. We are very disappointed.

    Awesome gift

We bought this for our son and it’s perfect. Great way to break him in to motorcycles. He’s 11yrs old and is 55 inches tall. They recommend this one for an older age but it works for him. The mx350 that’s recommend for his age his sister rides (7years old).My husband and I can ride it as well as you can see, he’s 6 ft.Do not get this soaked aka wash your new bday gift. Even though it has a black box protecting the battery and wires it is not waterproof and has cracks. If you do… and you notice it clicks but doesn’t move. You’ll have to open it up and dry it off. It’s a pain in the a$$, long story short mom to the rescue. Small puddles are fine just don’t drowned the damn thing.I put this together by myself, took about 20-30mins. It was pretty easy, I’d say the only hard part was getting the front tire on, that took me a hot min because the bike is heavy. You can’t flip it on its seat because it will break/ stress the plastic. Well I guess you can but it might not look new afterwards. It has a little shock system but nothing compared to gas or “actual” dirt bikes. My son likes to take it off jumps and it manages but definitely not recommend. It can’t handle it. Little ramps sure, but when I say jumps. I mean my son jumped a flight of park stairs with it. 😳 Yes he survived, however, I think all the other moms started to ventilate. 😂Anyways awesome gift. Goes about the speed it says. Battery life is accurate to description. Also has front and back brake.

    Love it

I bought this bike for my son last month and he loves it!!! Great battery life and it goes pretty fast. I was worried about it not being gas but it is perfect if you child is looking for a dirt bike. My boy is 13 and it’s perfect size for him. Would recommend to anyone. My second son wants one as well so will most likely be purchasing another one
